FAQ: Rancid?
How can I tell if my olive oil has gone bad or is rancid?
Your Olive Oil has gone bad if it tastes rancid. Rancidity is that stale taste and smell that you get when oil oxidizes over time or is exposed to too much light, heat or air. Rancid olive oil tastes “greasy” or “oily” and leaves a filmy residue in the mouth. Fresh extra virgin olive oil taste smooth with no greasiness and leaves the mouth feeling clean.
Do not settle for rancid olive oil. Stamatopoulos & Sons always guarantees that the olive oil we sell will not go rancid for at least three years after harvest date when kept under proper conditions.
