Aloysia triphylla is named after Queen Maria Louisa, wife of  King Carlos IV of Spain. It was brought to Europe from Chile and Argentina by Spanish explorers in the 1600s. Its aromatic lemon oil was used widely in cooking and in perfumery. It has wide culinary usage, can be enjoyed as a beverage tea, and also has benefits as a medicinal tea.

CULINARY USE
Europeans commonly used Lemon Verbena to flavor fruit-based drinks, fruit salad dressings, fish dishes, marinades, puddings, as it pairs well with fruits, vanilla, and seafood dishes.
Lemon Verbena retains its lemony flavor during cooking, so you can use finely crumbled leaves in place of lemon zest in recipes, as well as add to batters of quick breads (banana, carrot, and zucchini breads).

MEDICINAL USE
